Throwback to the FIGHT AIDS CUP 2024 : A real success

The fourth edition of the FIGHT AIDS CUP took place last January 22th at the Louis II stadium.

H.S.H. Prince Albert II and Louis Ducruet’s Barbagiuans took on H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie’s CIRQUE FC.

Accompanied, as usual, by the Clowns in Folly, the players from both teams and the Princely Family arrived on the pitch.

As is the case every year, the friendly, sporting rivalry between the two teams was in full swing, and it was time for Louis Ducruet’s Barbagiuans to put the title they won in the previous edition on the line.

Although he did not play (injured), CIRQUE FC captain Sébastien Frey was on hand to support and push his team to victory.

Despite the charitable stakes, as we might have imagined, the competitive nature of all the players was soon apparent. A hard-fought match, duels… everyone wanted to win the prestigious FIGHT AIDS CUP trophy.

The technical quality was top-notch, and the participants were always delighted to meet up again, several years after having competed at the highest level in the world…

Barbagiuans president Louis Ducruet played the entire match.

Once again, Charles Leclerc was on the pitch for a large part of the first half, before giving up his place.

The Monegasque F1 driver honoured the organisers of the event with his presence and the commitment he has shown to the Barbagiuans and FIGHT AIDS MONACO.

THE MATCH

In the opening minutes, CIRQUE FC, led by the great Clarence Seedorf, controlled possession and created the first clear-cut chances. Determined to get back to winning ways, H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie’s team dominated proceedings and opened the scoring through Youri Djorkaeff. 1/0 for CIRQUE FC

Not satiated, the Circadian side kept up their momentum and prevented the Barbagiuans from creating any clear-cut situations. As solid as ever, they delayed the deadline on several occasions but were unable to prevent what seemed inevitable… the breakthrough goal came for CIRQUE FC thanks to Clarence Seedorf, who was omnipresent on the pitch. The goal was the culmination of a period of unbridled domination by H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie’s team. 2/0 for CIRQUE FC

The attacks on Monaco’s Barbagiuans’ goal were multiplying and were causing problems for AS MONACO’s long-standing central defensive pairing of Sébastien Squillaci and Gaël Givet.

The latter was forced to commit a foul in the penalty area, resulting in a penalty. The sovereign called for VAR (of course there was none…) to no avail. 3/0 to CIRQUE FC with Robert Pires’ goal, which caught Daniel Subasic off guard.

The half-time whistle blew and the crowd were treated to a performance by the Paris fire brigade just outside the royal box. At the start of the second half, the trend was completely reversed… As if reinvigorated, Monaco’s Barbagiuans turned the match on its head by showing themselves to be dangerous on several occasions.Possession had switched sides and CIRQUE FC were struggling to get out of their own half. The Barbagiuans were not about to relinquish the trophy just like that… Logically, H.S.H. Prince Albert II’s team reduced the deficit… Who better than Javier Ernesto Chevanton, last year’s man of the match… to score and put the Barbagiuans back on track. 3/1

A few minutes later, Chevanton scored again but his goal was disallowed for offside by referee Gaël Angoula. Despite friendly protests from the sovereign, the score remained intact.

The Uruguayan made amends, bringing the score back to 3/2 after a superb right-footed strike through the middle of the opposing defenders.

A few minutes before the end of the game, the proceedings stabilised and despite a few chances from both sides, the score remained level and CIRQUE FC won 3/2, as the Barbagiuans had done last year.

Gathered together for a good cause, it was time for the players to celebrate their presence on the pitch together.

The trophy was presented to H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie’s team, who were delighted to be back on top of the FIGHT AIDS CUP! At the Barbagiuans gala, Youri Djorkaeff was presented as the Man of the Match and received the trophy by the Sovereign. He succeeds Javier Ernesto Chevanton, who scored twice again this year.

Sébastien Frey, captain of CIRQUE FC:

« I’m delighted to have won the FIGHT AIDS CUP for the third time. The princess told me how happy she was and thanked us, along with all the players.

Once again this year, we were able to raise substantial funds for FIGHT AIDS MONACO, which is why we are here. The objective has been achieved, and the event continues to grow and improve over the years, so we can look forward to future editions with ambition and confidence. I’d like to thank the Princely Family and congratulate Louis Ducruet, a key figure in the organisation of this gala evening. We’ll be there next year to keep up the momentum and, of course, put the trophy back on the line. »

Louis Ducruet, President of Barbagiuans and organiser of the event:

« This fourth edition has lived up to all its promises. I’m proud to see the FIGHT AIDS CUP evolve, always with the presence and support of football legends. The idea is to put the spotlight back on the charity, and once again we’ve done just that. I know that the funds raised will be put to good use and I’m delighted to be contributing to the development and sustainability of FIGHT AIDS MONACO through the organisation of this event. I would have liked to keep the title for another year, but that’s the way it is. I saw that the participants enjoyed themselves, as did the public, and that’s what really counts. I congratulate CIRQUE FC and we’ll be back next year for a sporting result that I hope will be in Barbagiuans’ favour. »

« The FIGHT AIDS CUP enables to put a regular spotlight on the fight that we are waging »

We’re back!

The eagerly awaited FIGHT AIDS CUP is back for its fourth edition. On 22th of January, the traditional gala match between BARBAGIUANS and CIRQUE FC will bring together a number of the world’s leading football stars on the pitch at the Louis II stadium. As well as the familiar players, other legends will be supporting the event with their appearance. This FIGHT AIDS CUP will also be an opportunity to celebrate the longevity of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024.

Personalities, high-level performances, entertainment and conviviality… all come together for another exceptional evening, again in aid of the HIV charity, FIGHT AIDS MONACO.

« We want this edition, which will celebrate several birthdays, to be one to remember ». On the eve of the fourth edition of the FIGHT AIDS CUP (22 January 2024), Louis Ducruet is clearly setting out his ambitions. President of the Barbagiuans of Monaco, the nephew of Prince Albert II notes « with pride » the enthusiasm generated by the event year after year, both among the public and the main players. An exceptional momentum that shows no signs of abating…

This growing popularity over time has already enabled the FIGHT AIDS CUP 2024 to achieve « various records, in terms of sponsorship and donations to the association. The success of previous editions has strengthened the loyalty of our partners… others have also joined us », reveals Louis Ducruet. A reality synonymous of success for the one which is a fervent defender of charitable values. « I’m delighted that the benefits generated by the development of this event will benefit FIGHT AIDS MONACO ».

The Barbagiuans captain also underlined his enthusiasm at the prospect to « once again, sharing magical moments on the pitch, in the company of legends of international football ». All united to support the fight against HIV, which will still affect 39 million people worldwide in 2022 (SIDACTION). A major issue, dear to the princely family…

H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie as ambassador

Prevention, Support, Accompany… This year, the Principality will be celebrating the twentieth anniversary of FIGHT AIDS MONACO. For two decades, H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie has devoted part of her daily life to the fight against HIV. With pugnacity and commitment, the association’s president/founder continues to drive forward the awareness campaign she launched in 2004.

Thanks in particular to the quality of the actions carried out (under the aegis of FIGHT AIDS MONACO), the princess has succeeded in imposing her demands and, in fact, putting this global fight back at the heart of the principality’s concerns. « We have a constant need to make people understand that they are not immune », says Prince Albert II’s sister, before continuing. « With advances in research, treatments, screening… we have the means to eradicate the spread of the epidemic. We need to encourage people to do the necessary things « . It’s a commitment that is growing stronger, at a time when other countries are showing less interest in this cause, which is as fundamental as ever.

A situation that needs to be remedied as soon as possible. « It’s vital not to give up, because HIV is still with us. The FIGHT AIDS CUP is an opportunity to show that there is an association in Monaco that continues to work for prevention, support and assistance for those living with the disease… The fight must not be allowed to decline. On the opposite, it must be intensified », declares H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie with firmness.

« I can never thank my son (Louis Ducruet) enough for this wonderful initiative ».

As President of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival, the football game between the Barbagiuans and Cirque FC holds no secrets for H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie. And for good reason! The traditional gala match already existed before the creation of the FIGHT AIDS CUP…

For more than ten years, H.S.H. Prince Albert II‘s team played against a team composed by the main actors of the festival, on the day of relaxation (Monday). In 2020, this friendly meeting in the intimacy of the Princely Family became an exceptional event… A development considered « necessary » by the Princess, aware of the potential that could be exploited. « The time had come to relaunch this historic event and pass on the relay to the younger generation. We had to move towards new ideas, new objectives… and we’ve succeeded. I’m delighted with this development ».

The birth of the event is symbolic of the commitment shown by Louis Ducruet since his arrival as president of the Barbagiuans of Monaco. As a man of convictions and projects, he immediately wanted to breathe new life into this match by attracting (on both teams) several legends of world football. It’s a way of boosting the public’s interest by bringing much more significant challenges… In 2020, Prince Albert II’s nephew said: « I wanted to support my mother by trying to raise funds for FIGHT AIDS MONACO. It was important to do my part by using an area that I know well, football ».

Four editions later, H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie is delighted with the benefits that the FIGHT AIDS CUP has directly generated in the life of her association. Her gratitude is infinite…  » I’m immensely proud to see my son’s involvement in causes that are particularly close to my heart. His idea was brilliant and so helpful to FIGHT AIDS MONACO », says the Sovereign’s sister, before going on. « Over and above the substantial financial aid, the FIGHT AIDS CUP enables to put a regular spotlight on the fight that we are waging. And it’s all done through a friendly and sporting evening. I can’t thank Louis enough for this wonderful initiative… ».

Over the years, the FIGHT AIDS CUP has gone from strength to strength. In addition to the « seriousness » and « professionalism of the organisation, which have enabled the public to attend in ever-growing numbers », H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie is also delighted to see the event perfectly acclimatised to the setting of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival (46th edition to come), of which she is president. « It’s an evening that promotes the values of solidarity that I hold dear and that we try to make feel to our spectators every year under the marquee. That’s also why the FIGHT AIDS CUP is an integral part of the festival program ».

A few special features in 2024…

Once again, the FIGHT AIDS CUP will be full of surprises and special aspects. In a year when the activities in the principality were part of the centenary of Prince Rainier III*, it was unthinkable for Louis Ducruet not to use the event to pay further tribute to his grandfather, who died in 2005.

Very much involved in these commemorations, the Barbagiuans’ president has revealed the creation of a « collector’s jersey » that players from both teams will wear during the match. This is a way of « celebrating the 100th birthday of the Prince and remembering the passion he had for football and AS Monaco ».

Louis Ducruet also points out that FIGHT AIDS MONACO and the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival will be celebrating their 20th and 50th springs respectively in 2024*. A number of organisational elements will help to draw spectators’ attention to these two key entities of Monaco… As usual, the « Clowns en folie » will accompany the participants and the Princely Family as they enter on the pitch of the Louis II stadium. A video illustrating the work carried out by FIGHT AIDS MONACO since 2004 and a report on the centenary will frame the « firemen’s show », scheduled for half-time of the match.

New personalities will also be making their contribution by taking part in the FIGHT AIDS CUP for the first time. With players such as Philippe Mexès, Daniel Subasic and Claude Makelélé, fans attending the event on 22th January will have the chance to relive their memories of the different golden generations of local and international football. « Every year, other participants join the adventure by joining the two teams. It’s very important for us to renew the cast a little in order to diversify the show offered to the public, who are already familiar with the event », says Louis Ducruet.

The son of H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie is also delighted by « the loyalty shown by some of the legends over the years. It shows their attachment to the principality and to the cause we are defending ».

With his third consecutive participation, Robert Pires is one of the cadres members of the FIGHT AIDS CUP. « It’s always very important for me to be available when the values of solidarity are highlighted through a major sporting event. We’re here to support an association… it’s a state of mind that suits me », he declares. French international, 1998 world champion and Euro 2000 winner, Robert Pires is « proud to once again represent H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie’s team. I am grateful for the trust that has been shown to me once again ».

In 2023, Monaco’s Barbagiuans won the trophy after a hard-fought encounter. Louis Ducruet‘s side will be hoping to retain that status for at least another year. The nephew of Prince Albert II declares with serenity: « The objective will obviously be to win once again. We’re going to do everything we can to achieve it… whatever the thinking of the opposing captain, Sébastien Frey ».

The scene is set…

* The centenary of Prince Rainier III comes to an end with the 2024 Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival.

  • 50th anniversary (creation) of the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival in 2024, but 46th edition.

GLAM FOOT, a successful first edition

The first edition of GLAM FOOT took place in Monaco on Tuesday 27 June.

As expected, the four announced teams turned out in force, each keen to win the trophy designed by the artist (ACIDE ART).

Set in the heart of the Espace-Saint-Antoine, the tournament brought together a variety of sporting and charitable challenges.

During the off-season, players such as Tiémoué Bakayoko and Éric Bailly (both with JPK HEALTHCARE) took the opportunity to treat the spectators. A technical demonstration, always in good humour.

Rolling, dribbling, fast-paced action, a festival of goals… everything came together to make this first instalment of « GLAM FOOT » a success.

In addition to the light-hearted, friendly atmosphere, the participants showed themselves to be committed and concerned about the causes they were defending.

Despite an injury sustained at the end of the season, Anthony Martial was obviously on hand to sponsor the event, of which he is one of the main instigators.

As Honorary President of the GLAM FOOT association, he was on hand to support his team’s representatives throughout the afternoon.

The Barbagiuans and their president Louis Ducruet were equally committed. As determined as ever, Prince Albert II’s nephew did not spare any effort, just like his team-mates.

Although SISIK does not come from a football background, he did not lose out to a number of professional players. With his key partners in the field of influence, such as Laurent Correia and Emine, SISIK flew the colours of the ‘OR BLEU’ association, of which he is an ambassador. They were joined in the team by ‘El Fenomeno’ Hassan N’DAM, six-time world champion in English boxing.

A close-knit, combative group that gave the best a run for their defending values.

Monegasque boxer Hugo Micallef was keen to support the event, as he was present on the sidelines to show his support for the Principality’s charity work.

THE RESULTS :

One match: 2X10 minutes

Once all the teams had competed, an initial ranking was drawn up. The result was a match for third place and a grand final.

Third-place match: TEAM BARBAGIUANS VICTORY OVER TEAM SISIK

Final: VICTORY TEAM ANTHONY MARTIAL VERSUS TEAM JPK

Anthony Martial: « I’m really happy with this first edition, which was friendly and family-oriented. What’s more, my team won, so I’m delighted! I can’t wait to come back next year and see this great event continue to grow. »

Louis Ducruet: « I’m delighted with the commitment shown by all the participants. This GLAM FOOT is a success and I have the feeling that everyone enjoyed being together. This concept has great potential and should certainly be revived next year, at a date that will make it easier to attract a large audience. »

A first edition that calls for others…

Barbagiuans co-organise the first edition of GLAM FOOT in Monaco !

A new major sporting event is coming to the Principality! On Tuesday 27 June, Monaco’s Espace Saint-Antoine will be the scene of the first edition of GLAM FOOT. This 5-a-side football tournament will bring together a host of celebrities who are well known to local and international football fans. Anthony Martial, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Valère Germain, Louis Ducruet… all will be present to honour the emergence of this competition, co-organised by the ‘GLAM FOOT’ association and that of the ‘Barbagiuans of Monaco’.

The Monegasque sporting calendar continues to expand! In addition to historic events such as the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters tennis tournament and the Formula 1 Grand Prix, 2023 will see the arrival of new events destined to become unmissable. Such is the case with GLAM FOOT. The foundation stone will be laid on Tuesday 27 June at the Espace Saint-Antoine in Monaco. With the presence of local football personalities such as Anthony Martial and Tiémoué Bakayoko, this year’s event will give red and white supporters a chance to relive their (not so distant) memories of the great years enjoyed by their beloved club. It’s also a way to forget the season that recently came to an end… But it doesn’t stop there! Franck Kessié (FC Barcelona), Éric Bailly (Manchester United), André Ayew (Nottingham Forest)… will complete a cast that includes some of Europe’s most prestigious teams. All of them will be taking part in GLAM FOOT, a 5-a-side football competition where the stakes go far beyond the pitch.

THE CONCEPT

Organised by the « Barbagiuans de Monaco », in partnership with « GLAM FOOT » and its honorary president Anthony Martial, the event will take place as follows. Four teams of five to seven players (potential substitutes) will compete on the indoor pitches provided at the heart of the Espace Saint-Antoine. Each team will represent a different association by taking part in the tournament. It’s another opportunity to promote the Principality’s charitable values through a major sporting event. « Monaco will always hold a special place in my heart, » says Anthony Martial, who is delighted to be setting up GLAM FOOT in the land of his first great performances at the highest level. Most of the participants will be current football stars, accompanied by other personalities from a variety of backgrounds. Some of them are particularly popular with the younger generation.

The teams taking part in the competition:

– TEAM Louis Ducruet, « Barbagiuans de Monaco » association

  – TEAM Anthony Martial, « GLAM FOOT » association

– TEAM JPK, « JPK healthcare » association

– TEAM SISIK (French influencer), « Or Bleu » association

All the teams involved will face each other in a championship format. This will establish an initial ranking as soon as the matches are over. This will be followed by the match for third place (3rd against 4th) and the grand final of the tournament (1st against 2nd) at the end of the day. The winners will receive a trophy designed by local artist Sullivan Générale (ACIDE ART). A keen football fan, he says he is « proud to be involved in a major event like this. Giving my time for a good cause is particularly important to me. »

The funds raised will be divided equally between the various associations represented at this first GLAM FOOT event.

Louis Ducruet / Anthony Martial, together for a good cause

The project, which was launched this year, brings together two of Monaco’s leading football figures. Under the aegis of the « GLAM FOOT » and « Barbagiuans » associations, Anthony Martial and Louis Ducruet have decided to join forces to design an exceptional event around their shared passion. Not forgetting the interest they both have in certain fundamental everyday causes...  » The group’s main objective is to mobilise sports stars in support of charitable causes, » explains Louis Ducruet. The chairman of the Barbagiuans adds. « Making a significant contribution to the organisation of an event such as this is therefore consistent with our guiding principle. It’s also an opportunity to broaden our field of action by getting closer to new humanitarian organisations. » Alongside his professional career, Anthony Martial has been at the heart of various charity projects since several years. The French international recognises himself in these values of sharing, support and accompaniment… It’s a state of mind that he has decided to put to good use for those who need it most. « It’s very important to give visibility to the actions carried out on a daily basis, which aim to help others, » says Anthony Martial, before continuing. « I’m lucky enough to be a top-level footballer. It’s a sport that speaks to everyone and gets a lot of media coverage. So I make sure that I use my reputation to the best of my ability, in the service of good causes. » The Manchester United striker is now one of the leading players in his position, both in the English league and on a global scale. He regularly rubs shoulders with some of the game’s biggest names. When asked about the willingness of some of them to come and support GLAM FOOT, the former Monaco man was extremely grateful. « We play in a very competitive environment, but that hasn’t stopped us from making some great friendships. That also translates into situations like this… I’d like to thank them for being there. » Led by Anthony Martial in particular, many of today’s players have made a date to meet in the Principality on 27 June. Louis Ducruet is delighted to be able to « satisfy the expectations of a younger audience ».

The stage is set…

SISIK, the influencer with a big heart

With over 334,000 followers on Instagram alone, Sisik is now one of the most followed influencers on social networks. Very close to his community, he doesn’t hesitate to share his daily life with transparency. Present at the competition, Sisik will be representing the « Or Bleu » association (https://or-bleu.org/notre-histoire ), of which he is the ambassador. « I take this role very seriously », says Sisik, who also has a career as a rapper*. « Every time I drink water, my first thought is for those who aren’t so lucky… reaching out to them is essential. » Aware of the current realities, Sisik is not fatalistic. « Honoured to be able to play with the stars of world football », he nevertheless remains focused on the main objective of his arrival at GLAM FOOT. To further promote the commitment and values defended by the ‘Or Bleu’ association for almost eight years now… « Taking part in this kind of sporting event is bound to help raise the profile of the fight we are leading. It’s a real opportunity. »Accompanied in the team by other personalities of influence and even of song, the ambassador says he is « grateful » to his partners for « the availability they have shown and their dedication, in the service of the good cause. I’m delighted to be able to count on them. »

As you can understand, this first edition of GLAM FOOT is very promising. Louis Ducruet sees it as a real « launching pad for future events, where the stakes will be even higher ». Determined, Anthony Martial also wants the event to continue and grow in popularity over the long term. « Obviously, ideally, I’d prefer to live in a world where everything goes well everywhere and for everyone. But that’s not the case, and that’s why associations are necessary. You have to help them, and as long as they need me, I’ll be there… ».

Jordan Klein and Manuel Vallaurio reached the final of the sports VIP tournament, after an almost flawless performance, before losing 6/3 against the winning Italian pair.

As planned, funds were donated to FIGHT AIDS MONACO, the association fighting against HIV, led by H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie.

Hervé Aeschbach, coordinator of FIGHT AIDS MONACO

« We are very grateful to the organizers for their warm welcome and financial contribution to FIGHT AIDS MONACO. The fight led by H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie, under the aegis of the association, has found a new anchor in the sports world. We are delighted.

Special thanks go to CEO Roberta Ceccarelli and the entire BSG SRL company, who initiated this magnificent event. »

Head of the organization, responsible for international relations, Antonella Lanfranco is pleased with the quality of this first edition. « We are very satisfied with this FIVE PADEL CUP. The conviviality was there, in an exceptional sporting framework. All the elements were gathered to make a great event and, together, organizers, players, partners, sponsors… we took up the challenge. The feedback from the participants is unanimous, they are ready to come back! The mission is accomplished.

The organizers finally announced that an international padel exhibition, named PADEL BEST EXPO, will be on the program next year, still in Monaco…

Barbagiuans take part in the first FIVE PADEL CUP

The FIVE PADEL CUP makes its beginning! From 17th to 19th April, BSG SRL of Rome invited personalities (sports but not only…) to participate to the tournament-event, organized around the practice of padel. Three days to celebrate the growth of this discipline, through the competition and various parallel initiatives. These will be conducted between the Principality of Monaco and the village of Eze, host of this first edition.

Let’s go for the FIVE PADEL CUP! From April 17 to 19, in the wake of the traditional Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters tennis tournament (April 8-16), lovers of the little yellow ball will be able to prolong the pleasure and watch the final sets of their dream week, in the heart of the beautiful village of Eze. But this time, padel will be the center of all attentions. Three days entirely dedicated to this discipline, that’s what BSG SRL of Rome is proposing with the organization of the FIVE PADEL CUP, an event with multiple stakes, where the stars will not be missed… What to participate in a concrete way to the rise of what many consider to be the most playful racket sport.

And for good reason! Padel is the perfect balance between conviviality, sharing (matches are played in doubles), physical effort and competition, for the most experienced.

Accessible to all because of the ease of learning, the simplicity of the rules, the design of the equipment and the conditions of play… everything has been planned to leave no one on the sidelines. « It is an activity that attracts. The beauty of padel is also in the diversity of the profiles of his players, more and more numerous in Italy and around the world » says Roberta Ceccarelli, CEO (chief executive officer) of BSG SRL.

The FIVE PADEL CUP, a new challenge for the Barbagiuans

Among the teams involved in this tournament, the spectators will have the pleasure to find the Barbagiuans. Created more than four decades ago by S.A.S Prince Albert II, the group has now no secrets for the local observers. With the organization of the FIGHT AIDS CUP*, which has become an essential part of the Monegasque sports landscape, the Barbagiuans are often associated with the game of football… For the president Louis Ducruet, the FIVE PADEL CUP represents an opportunity to widen the field of possibilities, by opening up to other disciplines. « Even if our favorite sector remains soccer, it is possible to diversify, thanks to the versatility of our members. Participating in such an event is a sign of the development of our entity », assures the nephew of the sovereign. Two Barbagiuans teams will be involved (4 players), each composed by emblematic figures of the AS Monaco. The opportunity for the local public to see again some of the most prolific players in the club’s history, in a very different context. Gaël Givet, a pillar of the Monegasque defense during the European epic in 2004, is in the hearts of all the red and white fans*. Retired from the fields, he is now a regular on the padel courts. An activity he discovered a few years ago and quickly became familiar with. « I immediately liked this discipline. It is technically easy to learn and the pleasure of playing soon appeared » underlines the former French international soccer player (12 caps), before continuing. « The FIVE PADEL CUP allows former professional sportsmen to get together to promote padel. It’s great! » Very enthusiastic before the start of the competition, Gaël Givet does not fail to recall « the honor and pride » felt every time he represents the Barbagiuans, as well as « the very important place that Monaco still holds in his heart. » Louis Ducruet is also keen to put a spotlight on the general state of mind that reigns around the group he leads. « The priority of the Barbagiuans is to bring together personalities who come largely from sport, for associative purposes. We are fortunate to have high-level athletes in the workforce who are sensitive to the values dear to my family and to the principality. » The nephew of Prince Albert II, also president of the Monegasque e-sport (gaming/video games) federation, adds. « We are very grateful for the availability of these players to take part in the Barbagiuans* events and, in fact, to defend the causes that affect us… »

Concept of the competition

This sporting event, born from the synergy between the entities of BSG SRL of Rome*, has for main objective « to highlight the universality of this sport by inviting at the same time and in an exceptional setting*, personalities from different horizons. It’s an opportunity for all participants to meet around a common interest », says Roberta Ceccarelli. As the name suggests, the FIVE PADEL CUP will bring together five tournaments that will take place simultaneously over two days (18-19)* at the Eze tennis/padel club, which will be entirely privatized for the event.

The organized competitions will be the following:

Youth tournament, mixed (winners of a contest set up by the Italian radio ZETA + members of the Eze padel school)

– Women’s tournament (Italian professionals + winners of the tournaments organized by MOVIMENTO PADEL FEMMINILE, an association dedicated to amateur players)

– Tournament for wheelchair padel players (all Italians + a French player of high level, from Nice, Dorian Navarro )

– Tournament of Managers / Business personalities

– Tournament dedicated to sports VIPs

Luigi Di Biagio, Gianluca Zambrotta… (others), this VIPs sports competition is the opportunity to put forward former glories of the Squadra Azzura (Italian national soccer team), but not only…

Sport at the service of charitable values

Beyond the field, this FIVE PADEL CUP will also be an opportunity to highlight certain fundamental causes. With 38.4 million HIV cases in 2021 (worldwide)*, prevention, support and permanent accompaniment of people living with AIDS are undeniably part of the major issues at stake. Essential values, dear to FIGHT AIDS MONACOFounded in 2004 by S.A.S Princess Stéphanie, the association has become, over the years and through its actions, a reference in the fight against HIV. In the Principality and elsewhere (notably with : « La maison de vie » in Carpentras ), it conducts an awareness campaign that is constantly increasing in intensity. BSG SRL, the company behind the FIVE PADEL CUP, wishes to highlight this dedication by designating FIGHT AIDS MONACO as the beneficiary of a part of their proceeds. « We are obviously very grateful to the organizers. This is an original action, an opportunity to promote our fight once again » says Hervé Aeschbach, coordinator of FIGHT AIDS MONACO, before adding. « It is thanks to such initiatives that the association has been pursuing and strengthening its commitment for almost 20 years… ». Aware of the general benefits that sport can have on various social issues, he is pleased that the values conveyed by FIGHT AIDS MONACO have found, beyond the FIGHT AIDS CUP, a new anchor point in such a vast domain. « There is no doubt that this field is, due to its universality, one of the most important vectors of communication with an ever-growing public. Sport, through the messages it spreads, is likely to influence mentalities, behaviours… it is an unavoidable means that allows us to accentuate the scope of our claims concerning the fight against HIV. »  Delighted to participate (under the aegis of the association) in a new event around « padel, a discipline in full expansion », Hervé Aeschbach does not hide his « pleasure to find the Barbagiuans group, faithful partner of FIGHT AIDS MONACO. »

Funds will also be donated to the « Fondazione HEAL*«  which financially supports the work of doctors and researchers involved in the fight against pediatric brain tumors. Many important sports personalities are regularly at the source of certain actions carried out by the « Fondazione Heal ».

The stage is set. Three days in an idyllic setting where sport, conviviality and a good cause will be one…

BARBAGIUANS FINALLY TRIUMPH!

Third edition of the FIGHT AIDS CUP

Accompanied by the « crazy clowns », the Barbagiuans and the Cirque FC took to the pitch. The Barbagiuans team led by H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the Cirque FC by H.S.H. Princess Stephanie’s daughter, Camille Gottlieb.

The mock kick-off between H.S.H. Prince Albert II and Camille Gottlieb launched the hostilities.

In spite of the charitable stakes, as we could imagine, the competitive nature of all the players was not long in making itself felt. An engaged match, duels… all wanted to win the prestigious FIGHT AIDS CUP trophy. Great technical quality and great complicity between the participants, always delighted to meet again, several years after having been at the highest world level…

One of the YouTube stars, TiboInShape, was well integrated into the squad and stayed on the pitch for a good 15 minutes.

Charles Leclerc, now a regular at the event and with the Barbagiuans, started at kick-off and played 30 minutes. The progress of the Monegasque driver on the pitch was noted. He also showed, once again, his commitment and dedication to represent the values of the FIGHT AIDS CUP.

THE MATCH :

Cirque FC dominated for more than half of the first half. There were plenty of dangerous moves, but no one could get past the Barbagiuans’ goalkeeper, Diego Benaglio, who was omnipresent in the first half, as was the central defence, led by the legendary AS Monaco duo Sébastien Squillaci and Gaël Givet. Cirque FC goalkeeper Sébastien Frey, on the other hand, had little to do.

However, it was the Barbagiuans who opened the scoring from their first chance, against the run of play. After a great team move, Sonny Anderson got on the end of a cross and headed home. 1/0 Barbagiuans.

Shortly afterwards, Cirque FC reacted and equalised through Robert Pires. 1/1

At half-time, the Barbagiuans were dominated, but very solid. The players did not spare their efforts. Louis Ducruet played the whole first half at right back. Very good understanding with his teammates and good level of play.

In the second half, the trend was reversed from the start. Still led by Louis Ducruet, the Barbagiuans took the upper hand over CIRQUE FC in all areas. The introduction of Eric Abidal, Ernesto Javier Chevanton, Ludovic Giuly (at the end of the first half) and Fernando Morientes… to accompany Didier Deschamps, Claude Puel and the others allowed the Barbagiuans to accelerate.

The effects were immediate, Fernando Morientes scored with a superb header and Prince Albert II’s team took the lead in the 50th minute.2/1 Barbagiuans.

Ludovic Giuly added a third goal in the 53rd minute to give the Barbagiuans an early lead.  The break was made. From then on, CIRQUE FC resisted the repeated assaults of the Barbagiuans and even managed to create some interesting situations.

A penalty was awarded to CIRQUE FC but the legend Clarence Seedorf failed to score, forced to face a Manuel Vallaurio of the highest level (who came in for Benaglio at the beginning of the second half). Vallaurio’s save keeps the Barbagiuans two goals ahead.

Other chances for CIRQUE FC, still with Clarence Seedorf but nothing to do for the moment, hampered in his shot by the return of Louis Ducruet, still on the field and very involved in the match.

The nephew of Prince Albert II came off the bench a few minutes before the end. He showed leadership in his mentality and dedication to the team.

Despite the fact that Clarence Seedorf reduced the gap at the end of the game (rewarded for his efforts) with a superb goal (91st), the Barbagiuans kept this slight advantage and won, for the first time, the FIGHT AIDS CUP.

3 BARBAGIUANS – CIRQUE FC 2

At the Barbagiuans gala, Ernesto Javier Chevanton was voted man of the match this year and was presented with the trophy designed by artist Fred Allard by HSH Prince Albert II.

Louis Ducruet: « I am very happy with this third edition where the atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic. The players came with a smile on their faces and the desire to put on a show! I thank them all, as well as the partners and volunteers. I would also like to sincerely thank the public for coming out to support a good cause. The FIGHT AIDS CUP 2023 was a great success on all levels. We look forward to seeing you in 2024 and, I hope, even more people! »

The FIGHT AIDS CUP returns !

Third edition of the FIGHT AIDS CUP, always at the Louis II stadium. On January 23, 2023, as part of the 45th International Circus Festival, Prince Albert II’s team, « the Barbagiuans », will finally attempt to win the prestigious trophy from Princess Stephanie (CIRQUE FC), who has owned it for three years. A private preserve that nevertheless attracts covetousness and animates this rivalry, which the next part will be written before your eyes, through the traditional football match, only charitable in name.

The hour of revenge has come! Time has arrived for Princess Stephanie to put her title back on the line. The FIGHT AIDS CUP is back and this year more than ever the match is going to be breathtaking, symbolizing a rivalry at the top, far from having reached the high point. Forced to face the second victory of CIRQUE FC in the previous edition, Louis Ducruet has made this January 23, 2023 a date not to be missed in his calendar. For cause, the global organization of the evening, obviously, but not only… Since his arrival at the head of the « Barbagiuans » and the creation almost at once of the FIGHT AIDS CUP, the nephew of Prince Albert II has still not managed to win this competition, which he is however the founder. This is a difficult sporting reality, which Louis Ducruet dreams of not having to face anymore. Determined, the president of the group assures that « despite the mostly charitable aspects, the Barbagiuans have, after two setbacks, a great thirst of victory. » To ward off fate, the team of the sovereign can boast of having in their ranks some legends of local soccer having, once again, responded positively to the invitation of Louis Ducruet. This is the case of Claude Puel.

A central figure in the principality’s football club, he led the red and white to the French championship title in 2000, the first major highlight of his coaching career. Very complimentary about the state of mind that characterizes the meeting and, in general, the FIGHT AIDS CUP, there is no doubt that, on the pitch, his competitive spirit will soon be felt. This is not surprising for a man whose passion for the field is no secret and for whom defeat will never be an option. « It’s true that our squad looks older than the opponent’s. Nevertheless, the team is still nice to see and will, once again, give the best », says Claude Puel, before extending his words. « Through this match, we are defending a beautiful cause and the stakes are not limited to the result. Despite this, the Barbagiuans have at heart to win to reverse the trend and experience the joy of being, for the first time, the title holder. » An argument that translates his motivation at the idea of being part of a collective that could, if a triumph is achieved, make us forget the two consecutive failures suffered against CIRQUE FC (he was present during the most recent of them). Louis Ducruet is now convinced that « the upcoming event will be the one that will allow the Barbagiuans to finally register in the list of winners of the FIGHT AIDS CUP… ».

Captain of CIRQUE FC, Sébastien Frey does not hear it that way. In addition to Luca Toni, man of the match in 2022 (« two goals »), Clarence Seedorf, Robert Pires… can look forward to welcoming the Italian legend Francesco Totti this year, in a team where the stars will not be in short supply. This will allow Sebastien Frey to serenely express his ambitions : « I know that Princess Stéphanie loves the trophy… and she would be delighted to keep it by her side for another year. Even though our main objectives are to have fun and promote the fight against HIV, CIRQUE FC has always played to try to win. Louis should expect that to be the case again this year… »

The stage is set.

Claude Puel, emblematic figure of the « Barbagiuans »

Ready to take up this new challenge, the « Barbagiuans » already present before have, despite the latest results, the same enthusiasm to return. A loyalty that shows their attachment to the princely shirt. It is also a sign of the central place given to a romance that, for many of them, began long before the birth of the FIGHT AIDS CUP… A true pioneer of the « Barbagiuans », Claude Puel is one of the active members whose romance with this team spans several decades. The former midfielder has managed, in parallel to his career as a player and then as a coach, to be regularly available to take part in the events of the « Barbagiuans », both on and off the field. And he is decided to prolong the pleasure! Claude Puel will participate this year to his second FIGHT AIDS CUP with, as always when he joins the group, the same pride. That of representing Prince Albert II and of wearing this unique jersey, which he knows so well. « It’s always a great joy to be back with the Barbagiuans. I remember the wild games we used to play in Fayence at the home of the late Henri Biancheri and that the sovereign shared with us, a few years ago. This team will always be his and we must do honor to it. » The Castres native, who has dedicated his entire soccer career to ASM, adds. « Under the impetus of Louis Ducruet, the new generation has now taken the lead. Nevertheless, the basics have been passed on and I find again this friendly spirit that I have known, definitely indissociable of Barbagiuans. »

Some new features and particularities…

In order to reinforce the members of the team that the public will obviously be able to see again this year, Louis Ducruet wishes to bring in new blood. Ricardo Carvalho, Camel Meriem, Sonny Anderson, Edouard Cissé… will offer their talent to a team that already had plenty of it. With this initiative, the nephew of Prince Albert II is pleased to « continue the development of the group », but also « to introduce other personalities of the Monegasque football in the family of Barbagiuans. » As usual, all former professionals who will compose the sovereign’s formation have passed, in their career, by the club of the principality. An opportunity for the fans to relive their memories as supporters or watchers of the red and white team. For Louis Ducruet too, this meeting will have, as in the previous two parts of the event, a special meaning. « It’s a lot of emotion to be able to be with my idols and those of my uncle on the field. Some of these players are world champions… it’s a pride to have them here », confesses the president of the « Barbagiuans », before concluding. « Their availability symbolizes the proximity they have conserved with Monaco and especially with the charitable values that our country has always tried to defend. » Others local personalities such as the F1 driver Charles Leclerc will complete the squad. Jean Tigana will succeed Jean Petit and Arsène Wenger as coach this year.

Several parallel events will be commemorated during this third edition. In particular, the 45th anniversary of the French championship title won by AS Monaco in 1978. Promoted into the first division that season, the team was able to beat all the odds and write one of the most beautiful pages of the club’s history. Louis Ducruet assures, « some of the concerned players will come to the FIGHT AIDS CUP. This will be an opportunity to represent this golden generation of Monegasque soccer and to celebrate, with them, the memory of this prestigious success. » With the return of the circus to the principality this year, the president of the « Barbagiuans » reveals that some additional circus animations will also be on the program. In addition to the « clowns en folie » that will once again accompany the entry of the two formations on the field, another performance is planned at halftime of the meeting. According to Louis Ducruet, all of these elements have helped to « attract the interest of new sponsors and partners. These are added to those which are faithful to us. »

FIGHT AIDS MONACO in the spotlight

The FIGHT AIDS CUP is now a must in the Monegasque sports landscape and represents much more than a simple soccer match. The concept has no secrets for Sébastien Frey, who will celebrate his third participation on January 23. Grateful for the trust placed in him, he is « honored to represent an institution such as the Monte Carlo Circus Festival », but also, in general, « Princess Stéphanie and the charitable values that she cherishes. » The event, organized by the « Barbagiuans », will also promote the actions of Princess Stephanie’s association, FIGHT AIDS MONACO. It will also be an opportunity to put the fight against HIV at the center of attention for one evening. Coordinator of FIGHT AIDS MONACO, Hervé Aeschbach is aware of the general benefits that this event is able to provide, for the development of the group. « The FIGHT AIDS CUP is one of our main communication and fundraising vectors, along with the summer gala. The presence of soccer stars allows us to promote our prevention message on a more extensive scale, by directly reaching the sporting public, which we know is large. » He even adds that « seeing the name of the association linked to such an event shows the gratitude of the organizers, participants… towards the fight led by Princess Stephanie. »

Louis Ducruet affirms, « the interest is that, for the spectators, coming to the event becomes a real tradition. Barbagiuans are counting on your mobilization at the stadium to support the fight against HIV and, in fact, to contribute to the development of FIGHT AIDS MONACO. »

The FIGHT AIDS CUP 2023, an evening where, once again this year, sport, conviviality and a good cause will become one…

The FIGHT AIDS CUP is back !

On January 24, at 6.30 p.m., the Louis II Stadium will be the scene, for the second time, of a charity match between the team of Prince Albert II, the “Barbagiuans”, against that of Princess Stéphanie, the Circus FC. A meeting which will be in aid of the association fighting against HIV, FIGHT AIDS Monaco.

Building on the success of the first edition two years ago, the organizers decided to ride the wave to definitely make this event a must in the Monegasque sporting landscape. And for good reason… the various personalities of the round ball, which will again constitute (in large part) the two formations this year, should largely satisfy the public present to attend this beautiful meeting. “In the first years after the creation of this match, only our team was reinforced by former professional players, we had to allow Circus FC to do the same, in order to attract more public, sponsors… This year again , the legends of football have again responded present, in both formations. We have the unconditional support of all these players and especially Sébastien Frey, captain of Circus Fc, who facilitated the arrival of some of these friends. We are delighted », declares Louis Ducruet, president of  « Barbagiuans ». The evening, hosted by former BEIN SPORTS journalist (among others) Alexandre Ruiz, will therefore be an opportunity for fans to review some of the glories of local and international football, in both a sporting and charitable context.

BARBAGIUANS VS CIRCUS FC, a historical meeting that became FIGHT AIDS CUP

After making this team official (which has existed for more than 40 years, created by Prince Albert II), Louis Ducruet aimed to give new impetus to the historic meeting of the “Barbagiuans” against Circus FC, by renaming it FIGHT AIDS CUP. A coherent project which, once again, makes it possible to establish a direct link between sport and charitable values. « With my partner Romain Goiran (who is a child of the Barbagiuans), we decided to formalize this match to help my mother’s association, FIGHT AIDS MONACO. When this event took place at the Cap’ail stadium, on the sly with the Circus festival, big names in football were already invited. We found it a shame not to share the potential of such a sporting event with charity, « continues Louis Ducruet. In view of the proposed cast and the resources deployed, the objectives of Prince Albert II’s nephew, at the dawn of the event, are clear. “We hope that the evening will be an overall success, with a doubly important public mobilization compared to 2020. This will generate benefits doubled for FIGHT AIDS MONACO. This is our greatest wish. »

World famous players present

In addition to the stars already invited in 2020 and again in the « Barbagiuans » team this year, such as the French manager Didier Deschamps, other legends will come to contribute to the edifice. Among them, the former number 6 of the France team, Youri Djorkaeff. 1998 world champion and 2000 European champion in particular, he was among those who will try to allow the « Barbagiuans » to find their way back to victory, after the loss on penalties conceded two years ago. Despite this, the competitor he is stays aware that the challenges of the FIGHT AIDS CUP go well beyond the field. « It’s important that legends come together to give momentum and strength to this association. Each of the people present for this event must make a contribution to the edifice, the public, the players, the partners … in order to put forward a beautiful message of support and solidarity, « he said. The one we usually call « the Snake » adds. « We know the power of football, the impact it can have on social issues or for this kind of cause.

Athletes have become ambassadors, they must use this notoriety to send the right messages. »

Former player for the principality’s club in particular, he is now very proud to join the « Barbagiuans » team of Prince Albert II, with whom he has enjoyed very good relations since his time in Monaco. « I’ve always had a very good relationship with Prince Albert II, he’s someone I really appreciate. I was 21 when I was in Monaco, he was often with us in the locker room to encourage us. Today, I am one of those who represent the team he created himself … It is a source of pride, I feel like I am in the logical next step. For this, as for the association, it was important for me to respond present. «

This game is also an opportunity for him to see players he met during his professional career, with whom he has shared indescribable emotions, especially on a global scale. A reunion on the ground, a few years later, in a completely different context. « It’s a pleasure that is already starting in the locker room, it will have fun, laughter … the first steps on the pitch, the first movements, the warm-up … touch up the ball. There is always the little thing that unites all the old-timers, that spark of someone who has known the high level. With some of my team members, we have lasting memories, which is also why it is nice to meet again. And then … I would be happy to score a goal at the Louis II stadium, I have that in the back of my mind. «

Personalities such as Monegasque Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc or one of Prince Albert II’s nephews, Pierre Casiraghi, will also be on hand, to complete a squad that already looks great.

Sport at the service of charitable values

As the name suggests, the FIGHT AIDS CUP will once again be an opportunity to put a major spotlight on the HIV association, FIGHT AIDS Monaco. Founded by HSH Princess Stéphanie in 2004, the group seeks in particular to be present daily alongside those who are suffering and who feel the need to be support. At the end of this evening combining spectacle, talent and conviviality, the profits collected by the « Barbagiuans » will be entirely donated to FIGHT AIDS Monaco (entry will be free for children under 12, 5 € for young people from 12 to 18 years old and 10 € will be requested for adults). Beyond this financial contribution, the event represents above all an opportunity to raise awareness participants and the public to a cause that concerns us all. “This original idea by Louis Ducruet was an honor for us. It’s wonderful to see our name linked to such a sporting event, the FIGHT AIDS CUP. Associating sport with this struggle is a strong testimony of support for people living with AIDS. Above all, this is a unique moment to send a prevention message, « says Hervé Aeschbach, coordinator of the FIGHT AIDS Monaco association. He adds: “The participation of these football celebrities in this match demonstrates their availability to fight HIV and their solidarity around LL.AA.SS. Prince Albert II and Princess Stéphanie. Their presence will greatly help to touch their fans on the humanist values defended by this beautiful evening. »

The “Barbagiuans of Monaco” are counting on your mobilization to support the fight against HIV, through your presence at the second edition of the FIGHT AIDS CUP, at the Louis II stadium. An evening where sport, conviviality and a good cause will go hand in hand …

FIGHT AIDS CUP 2020: A SUCCESSFUL FIRST EDITION

As every year, the traditional football match between the Barbagiuans team and the circus team will take place. In January 2020, and for the first time, the meeting renamed Fight Aids Cup was for the benefit of the Monegasque association for the fight against HIV, Fight Aids Monaco. Several big football names played in both teams, enough to attract almost 600 people to the Stade Louis-II.

Back on an exceptional event, which calls for others.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the circus team won the game two years ago over Prince Albert II’s, the Barbagiuans. After a score of parity at the end of regulation time (1-1), it was the famous penalty shootout that allowed the two teams to decide between them, in the cold of the Louis-II stadium. But the essential was elsewhere: « Our main objective was to make a big communication for Fight Aids Monaco, through sport and a charity match », declared Romain Goiran, co-organizer of the event and Barbagiuans player. « The important thing is that people come to have fun. All the smiles, this good atmosphere … The audience and the actors of the game are satisfied. We were able to collect significant gains for the association. The bet is won ”. For Louis Ducruet, co-organizer and also Barbagiuans player, the evening was an opportunity to promote the association of Princess Stéphanie, in his own way. “I wanted to give support to my mother by trying to raise funds for Fight Aids Monaco. It was important for me to make a contribution by using an area that I know well, football. « For him, the presence of legends of a sport, which remains undoubtedly the most popular in the world, also strongly contributed to the success of this first edition of the Fight Aids Cup. “It wasn’t hard convincing them to come. They were all very motivated. Their participation attracted audiences to the stands, and that was one of the main goals. « An enthusiasm that Princess Stephanie had also wanted to share: » It’s a great idea to mix the circus and football for a good cause, « she said. The president of the Fight Aids Monaco association also paid tribute to the approach taken by her son. « I thank Louis for taking this great initiative. The evening was a real success. »

Renowned players present

Several former glories of the Principality’s club were present. Besides Sébastien Squillaci, Didier Deschamps, Gaël Givet, Andrea Raggi and Manuel Dos Santos, the presence of Ludovic Giuly was greatly appreciated by ASM fans. An opportunity for him to once again set foot on the lawn of Louis-II, whom he knows so well: « It’s always a source of pride to be able to play at this stadium where I had the chance to win titles », he declares. For Jean Petit, coach of the Barbagiuans and former member of the team, this charity match was an opportunity to meet players whom he had known throughout his professional career, in a very different context. « It was an honor to represent the team in which I played, but also to be able to train former glories with which I had the privilege to share great moments, sometimes at the top of European football. » On the circus side, other personalities were in the workforce, enough to expand the panel of football stars, already gathered to celebrate the first edition of the Fight Aids Cup. Aside from Patrick Vieira, Sébastien Frey, William Gallas and Olivier Dacourt, Laure Boulleau, retired professional player and now consultant to Canal + did not hesitate to testify to the pleasure felt by participating in such a meeting. « It was a great time, which allows you to regain feelings after quitting. Through this event, the values of sport were also able to be put forward, which is very important. «

On January 24, 2022, the Fight Aids Cup will celebrate its second anniversary. Delayed for a year by the COVID-19 pandemic, the long-awaited charity event and in particular by the lucky ones already present for the first edition, will therefore make a comeback at the Louis II stadium.

The evening, always placed under the values of sport and conviviality, promises to be once again thrilling, and is likely to delight football enthusiasts who will attend …
